Organ Restoration Project

Campaign kick-off was September 11, 2005

The Making Music Together campaign brochure is online and outlines the history of the organ project, the current problems and plans, and charts the costs and fund-raising goal. Members of our Music and Organ Restoration Committees, along with David and Annabeth, have met with Bill Czelusniak, our organ builder, to review development of the final plans for the organ work.

The installation of a new division of pipes above the sacristy has progressed. We are switching from the existing pipes to the new pipes while the old ones are refurbished.

Fall Work 2007 New Organ Pipes Sounding

We now have 12 stops of the new division of our organ in service. For the next two months we will be limited to these stops while the wind reservoirs, all three of them, for the old part of the organ are rebuilt in the Czelusniak et Duval shop. When the reservoirs are re-installed, we will have partial use of the old part of the organ along with parts of the new division. Which parts we hear when will depend on which pipes are being worked on at the time.

Does that sound confusing? Put another way, we will have use of parts of the organ most Sundays from now until the completion of the work, but which parts we can use will change as the work progresses.

Also, please remember that while we now have a sample of sound from the new division, that sound does not yet have its final shape. The pipes will be voiced and worked on so that they all contribute properly to the final sound.

Bill Czelusniak and his workers are in the south organ chamber 'shoehorning' (Bill's word) pipes into place. We will have more of the organ functioning and usable. They will return in December for more work onsite, so we will have even more of the organ back in operation before Christmas.

We anticipate that Bill will be able to begin work on the façade pipes (the ones we will see above the organ console and choir pews) sometime in January, 2008. We are hoping for completion of the whole project by late winter.

As we approach the final stages of our organ expansion and rebuilding next winter, we also need to be in the final stages of our fundraising. We need less than $14,000 to reach our goal of $175,000. Can you help?
